The much requested new release from our snarly workingman’s Texas song rocker James McMurtry is here this week at last. James rocks and rambles through stories and rants from tales of the roving eye to laments for aging black sheep to a few stern slaps at the corporate war mongers all filtered through grit of small town grief, anger, and redemption. These 12 tracks are the first new studio offerings since 2005’s firebrand “Childish Things” and are really not very different in a good way. Jack-slap you blue collar stance, rip-roaring swamp raw ravers and sultry bar room melancholy, all shot through with great guitar often blazing blues rock and some tasty slide here and there. Can you say nitty gritty? Oh yeah. James McMurtry brings it again. Political correctness and the delicate sensibilities of the country club set just aren’t on his check list, and never were thank goodness.
