Destroyer / Trouble in Dreams
Destroyer / Trouble in Dreams (merge)
Destroyer is really too good for a person of my tastes and means. I mean, I grew up listening to Led Zepplin and The Clash in Spartanburg and now I’m living in Greenville and working at a grocery store. Not to break bad on the ROCK of our small town, but this record is a little less obvious and a little too sophisticated for a guy like myself to be spinning at the moment. No, it’s not chamber pop nor totally devoid of the blues, but it’s rock a la Bowie at a time when the major labels are choosing not to promote the type of new progressive artists that would perpetuate it’s own existence.
Not to change the topic, but the major labels deserve what they get. They have made a series of bad decisions which have not only put the dagger to their own chest’s but have also deprived normal folks to great pop music, developing artists of careers, and poor old retailers with quality product. Yeah, the major labels totally blew it and I feel like it is just a coincidence that technology and format change happen to be evolving at a time in which they are being rubbed out of existence. The music industry has always been a dynamic market that has been dependent upon turning folks onto quality music and developing talent into sustainable artists. But somewhere along the way, the label executives that were enthusiastic about great music and had pride about what product they were promoting became marketeers that felt capable of developing artists that fit whatever trend or tie-in that seemed most profitable in their short-term return on investment mindset. These short sighted businessmen have hijacked our music. Go to Horizon and buy the Destroyer Lp and buck the system! It has failed you.
