The Afromotive - Asheville’s authentic Afro-pop ensemble at the Handlebar: Fri June 6, 9PM

afromotive514.jpgWith this many people on stage, including a three-piece horn section, just about any band can generate enough energy to power a small city. Take that onstage population and add Afrobeat, led by band leader Kevin Meyame of the Ivory Coast, west Africa, and what you’ve got, basically, is Tower of Power gone world beat. Asheville’s The Afromotive escorts Afropop into the modern age and takes the dance floor with them. Fans are going crazy — and the band’s buzz is growing geometrically. Major performances have included Smilefest 2006, Lake Eden Arts Festival and such high profile opening slots as Spearhead, Cyro Baptista, the Chicago Afrobeat Project — and a special guest appearance by Erykah Badu. No need for a passport for this show — we’re bringing the world to you — but dancing gear will be required.
