Chuck Prophet at Handlebar Thursday June 19, 8:30pm

One of Horizon’s all time favorite rocker-writers is coming to town, so come get the CD sale-priced right now and be at The Handlebar when he hits the stage. It’s a summer time thing!
Southern California based visionary rock ‘n’ roll journeymen Chuck Prophet is consistently one of the most refreshing writers out there swimming in an otherwise sea of shallow content, can’t really rock or write a real song mongers that is the herd of critics darlings so often ballyhooed these days. He is equal parts beat poet, dis-affected slacker, film noir sonic lens, and nonconformist wordsmith with a penchant for adventurous topics It’s all simultaneously put in service within each tasty trash rock track he releases. The devil may care trail of his artistry and laconic snarl drawl in roots rock goes way back to the legendary LPs from the Green On Red (his earlier band) and things notably and undeniably became Chuck Prophet with 1999’s The Hurting Business (Chuck adds a turntablist to his rock’n’roll) and then forward to one of the greatest releases ever in this genre No Other Love from 2002, which made our Top 30 of the Three Decades of Horizon list — the track Summer Time Thing being an absolutely perfect song/anthem/rock statement. Now Mr. Chuck is here with Soap & Water and a concert at The Handlebar this Thursday. Imagine Lou Reed, Jim Morrison vocal tendencies plastered onto a James McMurtry not exactly Texas but South California peering out from mirror shades in front of a 1972 era Rolling Stones rhythm section. Ok that was a stretch, but you get my drift.
