A note from Dolphus Ramseur, of Ramseur Records:

For over thirty years Gene Berger has been at the helm of his independent record store Horizon Records. His store has become an institution, not only in Greenville, SC but within the music industry on the whole. When major and independent record labels think of the key independent record stores in the South, Horizon Records is one of the first that comes to mind. Gene and his staff are first and foremost lovers of music and it shows when you walk inside to shop at his store. Gene has also been someone that I could call and pick his brain about the music industry. People like Gene insprired me to start my own record label. So, Ramseur Records is honored to offer a $200 shopping spree at Horizon Records on November 1st to a lucky winner of a contest we are throwing. You must have a ticket for the Avett Brothers show on November 1st at the Peace Center in Greenville, SC.

Congratulations to our winner, Jenna Ralphs of Huntersville, NC!

To enter, please send an email to avettmail@gmail.com with the words “Greenville Contest” in the subject line as well as your name, phone number and address in the body of the email. We will pick a winner at random and announce it on Wednesday, October 29th. If you win, you will receive a $200 shopping spree at Horizon Records, courtesy of Ramseur Records. You have to be there to claim your prize between 12 and 5PM on November 1st (the day of the show) and you MUST have a ticket to the show and a picture ID to present to the staff at Horizon!

Also, for those of you going to the show, Horizon Records is offering 10% OFF any new CD or LP in their entire stock and 20% OFF anything used CD, LP, DVD, or BOOK for one day only (Saturday November 1)you must show your ticket to receive the discount. In case you missed it — from spin.com:
Concord, NC’s brotherly, punk-and-bluegrass trio sign to Columbia imprint American Recordings and prep new full-length with the hirsute producer.
—By William Goodman
According to a band website post (July 6), raucous, beard-sporting quintet the Avett Brothers – who impressed us with their lively set atBonnaroo ‘08 — have joined the likes of Neil Diamond, Weezer, and Jay-Z, tapping another facial hair lover, industry honcho and knob-twiddler extraordinaire Rick Rubin, to record their forthcoming fifth full-length. And the Brothers won’t just partner with Rubin in the studio: The trio has inked with Rubin’s Columbia imprint, American Recordings. “With this union has come another, as we have just completed and signed an agreement with American/Columbia Records, the label with whom we will proudly release our next record,” the post reads. “The recording process has been, and will no doubt continue to be, an experience defined by heightened levels of commitment and conviction,” the band writes. “It is our distinct pleasure and honor to be in such fine company as we build and bring this most current chapter of songs to fruition.” An album title or release date has yet-to-be announced, but while you await further details, catch the Avett Brothers at THE PEACE CENTER SATURDAY NOVEMBER 1st.
