Psychobilly Drac-rock guitar shredder brings out the redneck in everybody
Looking like Dracula’s nasty little brother after hard years of drinking and working as a carnival barker for a second-rate freak show, Unknown Hinson unleashes his own brand of country-western-tinged psychobilly. Why’s he Unknown? That’s what it said on his birth certificate in Charlotte, NC, under “father”; so he was named after his Daddy. His weepy twang and searing guitar have led to soaring popularity, earning him fans from Billy Bob Thornton to Simpsons’ creator Matt Groenig. He’s also the voice behind the Early Cuyler character in the Cartoon Network’s show, The Squidbillies. Marty Stuart introduced him as his illegitimate half-brother; he’s toured with Hank III and Reverend Horton Heat; Tom Petty once went backstage in Hollywood to ask how he gets his “sound,” and the Rolling Stones invited him to a soundcheck session for their Charlotte show.
