Check our 3 feature CDs this week: “Da Boss” Bruce Springsteen, The snappy Brit dancey pop wonder kids Franz Ferdinand, and a SMOKIN’ re-issue of a fiery 1973 Latin Jazz cult classic from Argentinean sax player Gato Barbieri. Now THAT’S what I’m talking about. Speaking of me talking, I just have to say how amazing last week was starting on Tuesday with the inauguration (featuring Aretha and Itzak Perlman & Yo Yo Ma) of our 44th president and topped off right here with a big sloppy, feel good love-fest of an in-store from our new best fiends, The Gourds, who drove from Oxford Mississippi to our corner, set up and proceeded to make The Bohemian Café & Horizon Records one of the most real inaugural parties in town.

Then on Saturday afternoon Free Planet Radio blew in from Asheville and slung sonic sunshine everywhere with their all too brief set. Magic!! In between I’m blasting classic goodness as I re-experience Jimi Hendrix Electric Ladyland in its new remastered deluxe edition with DVD bonus disc. Unbelievable. Plus we took in a ton of vinyl including a slew of vintage Doc Watson LPs which I intend to spin repeatedly until they’re gone. So There.

Finally, a word…the more our economy, our financial system, all our jobs and world peace seem to be blowin’ in the wind the more I am encouraged by the constancy of music as a positive and healing force and an invincible channel for connecting humans and that really means love. Like when customers ask how we’re doing and say hope things are OK. They are and thanks for asking! We are all in mess together, well most of us. No $38,000 commodes around here. No economic bail out for record stores or hometown retailers. Just our friends, neighbors and a crazy passion for what we do.
