A list of “Yes” answers and dates to your many inquiries:
Greetings Everyone,
Wow, it’s the end of August. So that means Dog Days are here in full swing. No problem! It also means a slew of new releases (and unprecedented used CD and LP arrivals) are here and more on the way. It also means we are now selling locally grown fresh-off-the-tree APPLES at our counter. How’s that for a novel, Horizon-like idea? They are absolutely great and make the perfect healthy compliment to go with your music and your day. After that it’s a veritable cornucopia of new new stuff and new old stuff, starting with brand newness from Subdudes, Matisyahu (have a free 5-track bonus CD “Live at Twist & Shout”, while they last), Joe Henry, and Brendan Benson leading the pop-rock-roots charge. The unstoppable force of nature known as saxophonist James Carter and his co-leader John Medeski handle the Jazz-Funk department this week and it’s the harvest of back to the future folk music sonic bounty from Loudon Wainwright III’s Charlie Poole Project, Rounder Records new book about Jimmie Rodgers with contributions from Dave Alvin, Rodney Crowell, Marty Stuart, Bob Dylan, Steve Forbert, Nick Tosches and more.
Last and for real, not the least is the latest installment in Numero Group Records series, Wayfaring Strangers Vol. 3: Lonesome Heroes. 17 tracks of painstaking selected and re-mastered obscure 1970′s folk singer rarities. Delightful, refreshing and goes great with one of those apples and a cup of very very dark coffee. Last lastly I almost forgot the Melody Of Rhythm CD; Bela Fleck-Zakir Hussain-Edgar Meyer a beautiful collection of pieces for trio and a Triple Concerto for Orchestra with the Detroit Symphony / Leonard Slatkin Music Director. Banjo, tablas and acoustic bass — and orchestra. Be still my heart!! Absolutely last last lastly, my pick this week is a reggae re-issue from Zap Pow. We like good around here. New or not new. It’s all about what’s good. Hope you find something you like next visit to our corner. Come See Us
