“Phases and stages. Circles and cycles. Scenes that we’ve all seen before. Let me tell you some more…” —Willie Nelson

Greetings Fellow Music Scholars, Neighbors and Curiosity Seekers,
First on the update agenda is to say a BIG OLE HORIZON RECORDS THANK YOU! to EVERYONE who shopped here, helped out, played at, merely stopped in during the rollicking tidal wave that was our RECORD STORE DAY 2010 event April 17. What can I say? How about wow! We are grateful and humbled by the massive support and feeling of community that showed up here starting at 8am and rocked us all day. THANK YOU. See a few pictures of the festivities at facebook.com/horizonrecords.

After that it’s “forward in all directions” to quote from the 3 Mustapha’s taxi driver manual. Releases this week and last include something for everyone from smoking bluegrass by THE INFAMOUS STRINGDUSTERS, to a buffet of newness by country rebels MERLE HAGGARD, WILLIE NELSON and SHELBY LYNNE. Then psychedelic world offers us APPLES IN STEREO, and the much discussed return of ROKY ERICKSON with OKKERVIL RIVER. And most importantly it’s been a get down FUNK FEST these last few weeks. Please review our picks for a sample roster from the Full Funk Feature Finalists. And almost lastly:

Lots of LIVE MUSIC activity around here. Friday night MICHELLE MALONE BANNED plays in The Bohemian Café at 10pm. Michelle is one of our favorites. She and her music have been part of the Horizon journey for more years than either of us wants to admit. Bottom Line? Her songwriting, rock-it attitude and stunning guitar work is some of the best anywhere. Period. As for the South; she’s the boss. Stop in Friday evening and likely you’ll find Michelle digging through the vintage RnB vinyl prior to rockin the house. Next week things stroll on when MAY 6th we are pleased to present a late afternoon 2 band co-bill: MATT BUTCHER and DAVID WAX MUSEUM. Check this out. Matt returns and brings Boston friends with him. Some of the best acoustic roots music you’ll hear. Promise.

Don’t forget what Neil Young told us recently: “light a candle in the darkness”

And then COME SEE US!
