What a Week!!! – Crazy good New Stuff: KRIS KRISTOFFERSON, HOLD STEADY, JAMES TAYLOR & CAROLE KING. Free show on Thursday — 2 acoustic sets: Matt Butcher – David Wax Museum starting 4 pm-ish.
It was raining again late Monday night as I wrote this update. I’m listening to a superb jazz piano trio CD called Antibes by GREG REITAN (I finally had to take a break from BRAD MEHLDAU‘s Highway Rider, still a top 2010 contender for me). I’m hoping all my pals and business colleagues in Nashville are ok. The flood that hit music city has been an absolutely devastating monster from what I’ve been told by several of the lucky ones that were still on the phone and working Monday. Huge portions of Nashville were under water or have extensive flood damage or are inaccessible to residents to get in or out.
Back here in lush, green Greenville it’s a week of new releases loaded with acoustic and Americana magic by JOSH RITTER, archival wisdom from KRIS KRISTOFFERSON, and a legendary songwriting duo concert from JAMES TAYLOR & CAROLE KING. PLUS rocking snarl from the unstoppable HOLD STEADY and a Pink Floyd project from the unfathomable FLAMING LIPS to name just a few highlights. As well, I’ve salted our CLASSICAL collection with a batch of recent re-issue CDs from VLADIMIR HOROWITZ (a stunner of 1986 Berlin concert), and greatest hits series of wonderful collections by guitarist JOHN WILLIAMS, violinist JASCHA HEIFETZ, Pianist GLENN GOULD, and a CHOPIN CD from MARTHA ARGERICH.
Of course I want to remind you, nay, exhort you to join us THURSDAY from 4-6PM when we are pleased to present a musical double header: MATT BUTCHER returns with his virtuous bag of songs, vocals and sterling guitar styling’s. He will be joined by DAVID WAX MUSEUM one of Boston’s more buzzed up acoustic folk energy purveyors. They’ll sing and play. You’ll like, hopefully shop some, Café will serve you something and we’ll have a dang nice day Thursday in the modern world.
Catch up on recent releases right here.
